Presentation at LSE. Centre for Analysis of
Social Inclusion (CASE) on 9th March 2022
"Repeat performance, SEND, Exclusions and minority young people"
This talk discusses the long history of children and young people from minority
(especially Black Caribbean) backgrounds excluded from mainstream schooling. From the ESN
scandals of the 19760s and 1970s to the numbers of young people excluded from mainstream
schools into various kinds of alternative provision in the 2020s, the failure of the
system to educate all young people remains a scandal.
